“Women’s Voice and Leadership” Project. Informational Bulletin April-October 2022

In this issue, read about Romani women’s organizations, mediators, and Romani civil society organizations. Topics covered include the activities of Romani mediators, local initiatives, participation in national and international events, and a conference dedicated to human rights and fundamental freedoms in the OSCE region.

Romani Mediators’ Activities:

From August to October 2022, mediators conducted focus groups and individual meetings with Romani women in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, and Chernihiv regions. This method of engagement helped identify issues that Romani communities will address in collaboration with local authorities. These issues include humanitarian assistance, facilitating temporary housing, document restoration and processing, and more.

Local Initiatives:

The project supported initiatives by Romani women’s organizations and Romani mediators. Actions were taken between July and September 2022, including actions with Romani women, local authorities, and civil organizations to support women in VPO (violence prevention organizations) and foster dialogue.

Participation in National and International Events:

Recently, a delegation from the Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli” met members of the European Parliament in Brussels, including Peter Pollak, Romeo Franz, Dr. Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana, and MEP Dietmar Köster.

Conference on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the OSCE Region:

A ten-day conference focused on human rights and fundamental freedoms in the OSCE region. The conference provides a platform for discussing urgent matters such as democratic institutions, rule of law, tolerance, non-discrimination, basic freedoms, and humanitarian concerns.
