In June, Zakarpattia hosted a series of key events focused on the protection of the rights of the Roma national minority. The team of the Roma Women’s Fund “Chiricli” participated in vital discussions on current challenges and solutions in the fields of documentation, social protection, and building trust in state institutions.
On June 18, project coordinator Yulian Kondur represented the Fund at the roundtable “Ensuring the Rights of Roma National Minority Representatives in Zakarpattia Region.” The discussion brought together representatives of government authorities, local self-government, international organizations, civil society, and the Roma community.
“It is essential to identify Roma people without official identification documents and create conditions that foster their trust in the state. This is the foundation for true integration and human rights protection.”
Yulian Kondur
On June 19–20, a two-day training “Developing a Social Atlas of Roma Communities in Zakarpattia” was held for Roma mediators. Its goal was to prepare for a large-scale survey that will be conducted in Roma communities across the region during July and August.
The findings from this survey will guide targeted advocacy efforts tailored to the needs of Roma communities, as well as inform the effective implementation of the Strategy for Promoting the Realization of Roma Rights and Opportunities until 2030.
The training was conducted within the framework of an initiative aimed at strengthening Roma civic participation, supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and coordinated by the Helsinki Deaconess Foundation.
Together, we strive to ensure that every person feels part of society — with equal rights, opportunities, and access to a life of dignity.
