Ukraine’s Eurointegration and Minority Rights: A Key Step Forward

18/01/2025

On January 17, 2025, a significant event dedicated to building a rule-of-law state in Ukraine took place in Berlin, supported by the EU and Germany. Representatives of governments, parliaments, NGOs, and academic institutions participated in the event.

Strengthening the Legal System and EU Support

The panel discussion focused on critical issues of Ukraine’s European integration process. Particular attention was given to how the EU and Germany support reforms in Ukraine and assist in strengthening the country’s legal framework.

Protection of National Minorities

Special attention was devoted to the rights of national minorities, including the Roma community. Daniel Hromyko, a representative of the Roma Foundation “Chirikli,” emphasized the importance of considering the interests of national minorities in policymaking processes.

The Role of the “Chirikli” Organization

The “Chirikli” Foundation actively contributed to developing the Rule of Law Roadmap, which is a vital component of the negotiation process for Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The organization works to ensure effective protection of minority rights and align Ukrainian legislation with European standards.

A Shared Future

Participants expressed optimism about Ukraine’s future in the EU. As highlighted during the meeting, “Together, we are building a society where human rights and the rule of law are the foundation of shared prosperity.”
