Summary Document of the International Conference “Respecting the Rights of Romani Women in Ukraine”, held on October 17-18, 2018, by UN Women in partnership with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and the International Charitable Organization “Roma Women’s Fund ‘Chirikli’.”
The International Conference “Respecting the Rights of Romani Women in Ukraine” emerged as a result of close and fruitful collaboration between the UN Women Ukraine Office, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and the International Charitable Organization “Roma Women’s Fund ‘Chirikli’.” While the primary focus of the conference was on the situation of Romani women, the broader context of the Roma situation in Ukraine was also considered. This context encompasses various areas, such as issues related to identification documents, education, healthcare, housing, the promotion of political rights and leadership of Romani women, the security of Romani communities, access to justice, as well as the role and status of Romani mediators. The summary document and recommendations from the conference will serve as important supplementary tools for shaping future actions to be implemented by state authorities in the coming years. They will also contribute to rationalizing the Roma National Strategy after 2020.
