Roma Women’s Activism in Focus of the Women’s and Feminist Movement

16/06/2026

On May 22, 2026, the first regional meeting of women’s and feminist activists from Kyiv and Kyiv Region took place as part of the new phase of the project “Women’s Voice and Leadership: New Strength”, implemented by the NGO “Generation of Mothers Lada” in partnership with the Ukrainian Women’s Fund.

The event served as the inaugural meeting of a new project cycle dedicated to reflecting on the current state of the women’s and feminist movement in the region, identifying common challenges, and strengthening cooperation among organizations and initiatives.

Visibility of Roma Women’s Activism

The Roma Women Fund “Chirikli” was represented at the event by Olga Tsviliy, who emphasized the importance of making Roma women’s activism more visible within the broader women’s and feminist movement.

During the discussions, she highlighted the need to ensure the meaningful participation of Roma women in decision-making processes and in shaping agendas related to equality, human rights, and women’s leadership.

Networking and Partnership Building

Participants discussed the challenges currently facing women’s organizations, as well as the resources and opportunities that help sustain and strengthen the movement.

Olga Tsviliy contributed to discussions on effective networking among women-led organizations, building partnerships between different initiatives, and improving cooperation between civil society organizations and donors.

Strengthening Women’s Voices

Meetings such as this help strengthen solidarity among women’s organizations, create new opportunities for collaboration, and contribute to the development of a stronger and more inclusive women’s movement in Ukraine.

For Roma women, participation in these initiatives is an important opportunity to increase visibility, strengthen representation, and ensure that the needs and experiences of Roma communities are reflected in equality policies and advocacy efforts.

Towards a More Inclusive Society

The Roma Women Fund “Chirikli” continues to advocate for the inclusion of Roma women’s voices, experiences, and priorities within both the feminist movement and public policies promoting equality and non-discrimination.

Strengthening cooperation between women’s organizations remains an important tool for expanding women’s participation in public life and building a more inclusive and equitable society.
