On April 8, as part of Roma Week at the European Parliament, an important discussion took place focusing on the reconstruction of Ukraine and the role of the Roma community in this process. The event brought together government officials, civil society representatives, and international partners to explore inclusive recovery strategies.
Ukraine was represented by members of parliament, representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office, local authorities, war veterans, and Roma activists. This platform served as a reminder that the Roma community is an integral part of our country, actively participating in its life even during the most difficult times.
For us at the Roma Women’s Fund “Chiricli”, it was extremely important to take part in this event. We had the opportunity to present the perspective of the Roma community, which—despite the challenges of war—remains active, responsible, and ready to engage in the recovery process at all levels.
Participants of the event emphasized that Roma are not just a community affected by war. They are citizens, volunteers, activists, and thought leaders who are already contributing to Ukraine’s recovery. It is the responsibility of the state and its partners to develop policies that leave no group behind.
We sincerely thank the organizers, moderators, and all participants for their openness to dialogue, partnership, and support at the European level. Let us continue working together for justice, equality, and unity.
