On June 27, 2014, within the premises of Darnytskyi District State Administration in Kyiv, Ukraine, a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement was held as part of the Council of Europe’s ROMED 2 program. The agreement was signed by the head of the administration, Hennadiy Lvovych Synstov, on behalf of Darnytskyi District State Administration, and by Zemfira Kondur, the coordinator for Roma issues from the Council of Europe.
The main objective of the ROMED 2 program is to support the integration of the Roma community into local societal life. Given the significant complex of problems related to the functioning of the local Roma community in Darnytskyi District, establishing cooperation with such a reputable organization as the Council of Europe is a timely and crucial step. As part of the program’s implementation, a Joint Action Plan was developed and signed between Darnytskyi District State Administration and the Roma Charity Fund “Chirikli,” aimed at implementing specific actions to engage the Roma community in the district’s social and cultural life, as well as to expand access to education and medical services. The Joint Action Plan pays significant attention to preventing legal violations among the Roma population and providing assistance to Roma families facing challenging life circumstances. Another important aspect of the cooperation is the implementation of the practice of using Roma mediators, both for enhancing communication between the Roma community and local authorities and for addressing community-specific issues.
The signing of the agreement took place as part of a festive event commemorating Youth Day and Constitution Day of Ukraine. The concert program featured Ukrainian and Roma creative groups and performers, including Ukrainian People’s Artist Leonid Sandulenko.
