Visit to the Shelter for Roma IDPs

During a working visit to Zakarpattia region, representatives of the Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli” visited a shelter in the city of Mukachevo that provides assistance to Roma internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Special attention was given to supporting children: an educational process was organized for them, led by Olena, a teacher and internally displaced person herself. Under current conditions, these classes are crucial for maintaining the educational development of the children.

Roma Community Challenges: Focus of Chirikli’s Work

Julian Kondur, the project coordinator, emphasized the importance of systematically addressing the problems faced by Roma IDPs in new communities. The head of the NGO “Roma National Society ‘Romen’ of Donetsk Region”, Rada Kalandiya, who actively supports the shelter, shared key challenges encountered by Roma families in their new places of residence.

The representatives of “Chirikli” took these cases for further work to provide targeted support and develop assistance programs.

Educational Initiatives by Roma Families

The team also met with a Roma family that has independently organized educational activities for children. The family ensures that children can continue learning and enjoy attending classes even under the difficult circumstances of displacement. 🏫

“It is very important for us to support educational initiatives for Roma children,” emphasized Julian Kondur, the project coordinator.

Plans for the Future

The Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli” has agreed on future cooperation steps to expand support for Roma communities, especially in the areas of education, social adaptation, and protection of IDP rights.
