The Roma community is an integral part of Ukrainian society, especially in difficult times of war, when unity and mutual support are needed.”
The roundtable on “International Roma Day: Unity and Resilience in Times of War” was opened with these words by Yulia Kondur, President of the Roma Women’s Fund “Chiricli”.
The event was held on April 8. It was attended by:Tatiana Pechonchyk also shared relevant information, recalling the crimes of Russians against the Roma in the temporarily occupied territories. The human rights activist also noted the importance of the activities of Roma NGOs in the context of emergency support during the evacuation.
The participants of the roundtable represent entirely different fields. For example, cultural activist Petro Chornyi is currently engaged in active cultural and patriotic activities in frontline cities and towns. And Roma activist Olga Mykhailenko continues to support local Roma, despite the heavy constant shelling.
Roma activists from Zaporizhzhia are also engaged in this. Thus, Larysa Domchenko, co-founder of the Zaporizhzhia Roma Center “Lacho Drom”, emphasized the need to unite for victory.
“Chiricli” thanks the participants of the event who were able to join and actively participated in the discussion. Only together we can overcome all the challenges that Ukrainians, including those of Roma origin, are currently facing. Together, we can achieve equality and victory!
