The Mayor of Uzhhorod, Bogdan Andriyiv, held another meeting with representatives of the Roma minority to coordinate cooperation in addressing the issues faced by this community in Uzhhorod. Among the attendees were Zemfira Kondur, Vice President of the charitable fund “Chirikli”; Eleonora Kulchar, Chair of the charitable fund “Blago”; Volodymyr Kondur, Chair of the coalition of Roma non-governmental organizations “Strategy 2020”; and Yuriy Mandich, a city council deputy.
The guests expressed their gratitude to Bogdan Andriyiv for establishing a sector (without the right of residence) within the City Territorial Center for Social Services, where Roma individuals can register their residence.
Education opportunities for Roma youth were also highlighted. Bogdan Andriyiv emphasized the importance of education, as it provides prospects for self-realization, ensures a decent standard of living for families, and contributes to their integration into society.
Zemfira Kondur suggested expanding cooperation to combat violence and promoting a tolerant attitude toward people of different nationalities, cultures, and religious beliefs.
Volodymyr Kondur discussed the initiatives launched in Odessa and now planned for Uzhhorod regarding simplified registration of Roma individuals without involving judicial procedures. Under this scheme, a person can obtain identity documents within a week or two.
In Uzhhorod, there are plans to establish social enterprises to provide employment opportunities for Roma individuals, with hopes of involving funds from international foundations.
The Mayor noted that with two active deputies from the Roma community in the city council and Miroslav Gorvat working in the labor and social protection department, communication has been well-established, allowing for the rapid and constructive resolution of problems.
