On April 24th, a seminar took place in Kirovohrad for professionals in social work from the city’s Center for Social Services for Family, Children, and Youth. The seminar was prepared and conducted by the Family and Youth Department of the Kirovohrad City Council, in collaboration with specialists from the International Charity Organization “Roma Women’s Fund ‘Chirikli’.”

The seminar was attended by the Deputy Mayor of the city, Sergiy Kolodyazhnyy, the Director of the Kirovohrad City Center for Social Services for Family, Children, and Youth, Oleg Krasnokutskiy, the Head of the Family and Youth Department, Lyudmila Dorokhina, and social work experts from the Kirovohrad City Center for Social Services for Family, Children, and Youth.

Zola Kondur, the National Coordinator of the ROMED-2 program, and Natalia Kostyuk, a trainer of the ROMED-2 program, spoke to the seminar participants about the peculiarities of the Roma’s national culture, overcoming citizens’ prejudiced attitudes towards the Roma, and their social integration. The speakers also dedicated significant attention to the topic of Roma mediation, explaining who mediators are, what their work entails, and how the activities of social workers intersect with the work of Roma mediators.

It’s worth noting that all seminar participants will receive certificates confirming their completion of a specialized express course for professional development. These certificates will be provided by the Institute of Family and Youth Policy, with which the “Chirikli” fund signed a cooperation agreement last year.

The seminar for social work professionals from the Kirovohrad City Center for Social Services for Family, Children, and Youth was conducted as part of the implementation of the ROMED-2 program.
