On October 21, a Monday, the Forum “Countering Discrimination and Hate Crimes” took place, organized by Gender Stream, the Council of Europe, and the Ombudsman’s Office. The event was also attended by the project manager of the Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli,” Julian Kondur.
The Ombudsman of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, emphasized the importance of protecting human rights, especially during the war, when vulnerable groups, including Roma, face increased discrimination and hate crimes.
One of the key topics discussed was draft law #5488, which aims to be an important step in protecting national minorities and all those facing discrimination in Ukraine. It symbolizes our country’s commitment to European standards of human rights.
Oleksandr Kornienko emphasized that Ukrainians are defending their future on the battlefield today, fighting not only for territorial integrity but also for democratic values. He noted the exceptionally high level of support for Ukraine’s accession to the EU, along with European standards.
Draft law #5488 is crucial for ensuring justice and equality in Ukraine. Its adoption will be a significant step in combating discrimination. “Chirikli” calls for support for this draft law, as only by creating safety and acceptance can we build a fair and comfortable society for everyone.
We sincerely thank Gender Stream, the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine – Kyiv, and the Ombudsman’s Office of Ukraine for organizing such an important event!
