August 12, 2025, the Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli” took part in the meeting of the Public Council under the State Migration Service of Ukraine, which was held online. The work of the Council is being renewed, and we hope it will become an effective tool for cooperation between the state and civil society.
For our organization, the priority remains the issue of Roma who still do not have personal documents. The absence of passports or birth certificates creates the risk of statelessness and deprives people of basic rights: access to education, healthcare, social services, and employment. This problem becomes especially acute during wartime, when the vulnerability of communities increases significantly.
Thanks to the initiative of the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine in 2023-2024, with the support of partners, “Chirikli” helped 158 Roma men and women obtain passports and birth certificates. More than 300 people received legal consultations and support.
We are convinced that within the framework of the Public Council it is necessary to develop a systematic approach to solving the problem of lack of documentation. “Chirikli” will continue to contribute to developing solutions that will allow thousands of people to obtain legal status and feel like full citizens of Ukraine.
We sincerely thank our partners for their cooperation and support:
