The issue of human rights and national minorities in our country is particularly acute today, as these questions are among the key factors in the development of the state, legal institutions, and society as a whole. That’s why it’s crucial to constantly keep a finger on the pulse and have the ability to positively influence these issues.
On December 17, 2014, as part of the Internship Program in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for 2014-2015, a roundtable discussion was held, attended by interns of the Verkhovna Rada and representatives of the active Romani youth and the International Charitable Organization “Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli.”
The event, titled “Human Rights in the Context of Youth Policy,” was also attended by representatives of the “Intern League,” graduates of the Internship Program, and now employees of the Committee on Family, Youth Policy, and Sports of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Orest Kryshtafovich, as well as Fedir and Zemfira Konduri, who represented the “Roma Women’s Fund “Chirikli.”
For the participants of the roundtable, the Internship Program in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was presented first, and then the attendees learned about the activities of the Fund. The Fund carries out extensive work in the sphere of documentation for Roma people, advocates for their interests at various levels; it has become a bridge and mediator between the state and the representatives of the Romani national minority.
After the presentations, a lively discussion unfolded, primarily concerning the protection of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine, particularly the Romani minority, as well as ways to address issues related to sensitive matters for everyone.
These matters couldn’t leave anyone indifferent, so the discussion was quite intense, covering various topics such as cooperation, assistance, joint youth work, and more. Fedir Kondur, who, by the way, is also a graduate of the 2005 Internship Program, emphasized that their organization is open to cooperation, as young and active individuals are the future of our country.
